What does the PAC do?

The PAC makes campaign contributions to federal politicians who support policies that are favorable to our members.

Why did the Health & Fitness Association create the PAC?

The PAC is one of the most important tools we use to support pro-industry politicians, build relationships in Congress, and communicate the vital role that fitness businesses play to support healthy lifestyles and positive mental health; prevent, manage and treat chronic disease; and create jobs in communities across the nation.

How does the PAC choose which candidates to support?

The PAC is a bipartisan political action committee. Decisions to support candidates are based on multiple factors, including:

  • The candidate’s position on specific business and policy issues that impact the fitness industry
  • The candidate’s overall support for the fitness industry
  • The candidate’s leadership and membership on key committees with jurisdiction over issues affecting the fitness industry
  • The candidate’s character, integrity and leadership abilities
  • The candidate’s position on general business issues

Who may contribute to the PAC?

The PAC is funded by individual contributions from the Health & Fitness Association's restricted class,” which includes the following groups (note: corporations may not contribute to a federal PAC):

  • Our non corporate members—such as individuals and partnerships
  • Our executive and administrative personnel
  • Executive/administrative personnel and stockholders of our member corporations provided that an authorized representative of the corporation has submitted prior approval
  • The families of all three groups above

How much can an individual contribute to the PAC?

An individual may contribute up to $5,000 each year to the PAC.

Who do I contact for more information about the PAC?

Federal law prohibits soliciting contributions outside the restricted class. Such contributions will be returned.
